P1.7 M rehab school building unveiled
By: Sheila E. Covarrubias
Zamboanga City - - Mayor Celso Lobregat spearheaded the inauguration of the newly repaired Putik school building which was gutted down by fire sometime in 2003.
The edifice is a two-storey 6 classroom structure that cost the city government some P1.7 million in repair.
In his message, Mayor Lobregat announced that his administration has also recently approved the awarding of the contract for the construction of another 2-storey 6 classroom in the Putik Elementary School campus.
“Putik Elementary School is so lucky because we identified a new project for the school”, the mayor said. The new project is one of the numerous school buildings set to be constructed in different barangays during the second quarter of the year.
These projects, Lobregat stressed will help ease the classroom shortage, a problem besetting in almost all public elementary and secondary schools.
He emphasized that education is very high in the priority of the city government of Zamboanga, though it is a responsibility of the national government.
The newly repaired school building will be occupied by Grade 3 students.
The inauguration was highlighted by the turn over of the building from Mayor Lobregat to Putik barangay officials, General Parent-Teacher Association and Putik School Principal consecutively.
Present during the turn over were Councilors Benjamin Guingona III and Rudy Lim, Principal Haydee Solmayor, a representative from the Department of Education, PTA President Miguelito Diano and some barangay councilmen. Fr. Joel Malcampo officiated the blessing of the building.
The newly-inaugurated building was earlier gutted down by fire due to faulty electrical wiring some four years ago. (City Hall PIO)
