Culianan folks grateful to Celso, city gov’t
Zamboanga City - - Contrary to insinuations that the present administration has no projects to show off, Culianan residents yesterday cited Mayor Celso Lobregat and the city government for the many projects implemented in their barangay amounting to over P15 million.
The residents, most of them residing in interior areas of the barangay, chided administration critics for constantly criticizing the mayor and even advised detractors to unite with the mayor in order to accomplish much for the people not only in Culianan but in other barangays as well.
“We get pissed with the unending criticisms (makarabya ya oi el di ila maga criticismo cada dia)”, Enrique Capistrano, a farmer said. His wife, Maria Arcelita echoed him and said “just help the mayor implement more projects” (ayuda ya lang con mayor implimenta maga proyekto).
The Capistranos said the present administration has helped them and their fellow residents in Zone 3 Riverside, Culianan because of the construction of a slope protection and permanent footbridge, two of the 10 projects unveiled by Mayor Lobregat yesterday morning.
Minda Alvarez of Zone 5 Culianan likewise belied reports that the Lobregat administration is sitting on its projects and said that they are very grateful to the city government for the useful and functional projects being implemented in their area. Another permanent footbridge was inaugurated in Zone 5 yesterday.
As this developed, Culianan barangay chairman Anastacio Limen said critics who say that the Lobregat administration has no concrete projects to speak about are lying and are only after media mileage.
“Politics is the motive of these criticisms” (politica el rason de este maga criticismo), Limen said adding that “Culianan folks are aware of Mayor Lobregat’s projects, maybe they (detractors) just pretend not to know”.
He went on further to say that Culianan is a Lobregat country and no matter what administration detractors say, his village residents are aware of the efforts of the mayor and his supporters in the City Council.
Culianan is a recipient of some P15 million worth of projects, 10 of which, worth P11.3 million were inaugurated yesterday morning. (Sheila Covarrubias)
