Sec. Puno to unveil city projects Tuesday

Zamboanga City - - Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno is expected to arrive in the city tomorrow for a series of inauguration of projects initiated by the city government for the police, jail and fire bureau.

Mayor Celso Lobregat along with Police Regional Director P/CSupt. Angel Sunglao, DILG-9 Director Paizal Abutazil, City Fire Marshall James Ramirez and City Jail Warden Capt. Ester Pepito on Saturday inspected the different projects to be unveiled in preparation for the secretary’s visit to Zamboanga tomorrow, June 23.

The projects to be inaugurated include the P4.6 million 2-storey 4 cell building with roof deck and water tank at the City Reformatory Center and the P1.45 million Sinunuc Police Station. The secretary will also be presented with the police maritime fleet, which is a result of donations and assistance from the local government.

Secretary Puno likewise will also inspect the newly renovated Central Police Station, a project that cost the city some P1.18 million.

Mayor Lobregat said the city government’s assistance to the police, jail and fire bureau is very tremendous and will continue to be strengthened in order to ensure better service to the residents of the city.

The DILG secretary has been very impressed with the city government’s all out support to all law enforcement branches and units stressing that the good working relationship between the local government unit and the DILG umbrella agencies contributes to the enhancement of peace and order.

Aside from the inauguration and inspection of city initiated projects, Sec. Puno will also have a meeting with the City Peace and Order Council and the Business Chambers such as the Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc., the Zamboanga City Filipino Chise Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Group of Zamboanga and the Deep Sea Fishing Corporation or SOPHIL.

Mayor Lobregat stressed that because of good fiscal management, the city government is able to provide support and assistance to the police, the city jail and the fire bureau and other law enforcement units.

Aside from infrastructure projects, the city also provides other forms of assistance such as fuel, allowance, office supplies, transportation and several others. (Sheila Covarrubias)
