Grenade explodes in Zambo

Zamboanga City (PNA) -– A fragmentation grenade exploded here Saturday evening inside the wharf.

The incident took place around 6:15 p.m. inside the compound of the Bureau of Customs (BoC).

No one was reported killed or injured during the incident that took place three days after a grenade exploded downtown that injured nine people.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director Senior Supt. Lurimer Detran said an MK2 fragmentation grenade was used in the attack based on the safety lever that was recovered.

Detran said investigation is under way to unmask the culprit in Saturday night’s explosion.

Last Wednesday, a similar type of grenade exploded and injured nine people in front of a business hotel beside the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) headquarters along Mayor Climaco Avenue.

The grenade explosion Saturday evening was the third incident that took in this city since August 12.

Police said the grenade was thrown by two men riding tandem in a motorcycle.

Last August 15, another grenade was thrown inside a cinema but failed to explode.

Police authorities have recovered Saturday evening a fragmentation grenade beside a commercial establishment in downtown Iligan City. (PNA)
