AFP: followers abandon Commander Bravo
Zamboanga City (PNA) — Lt. Gen. Nelson Allaga, chief of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), disclosed that rouge Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Abdulrahman Macapaar alias Commander Bravo is losing his grip on his followers.
Allaga said that Bravo has only remaining a handful of followers and “most of them are his relatives” who remain loyal to the rebel leader.
Allaga said Bravo’s men have abandoned their leader while military troops are continuously pursuing the rebel leader tagged as the mastermind behind last August’s attack of Lanao del Norte towns.
He said that Bravo is running low on food supply and is on the run to evade advancing military troops.
“He (Bravo) could not stay for a day in one place. He keeps on changing from one place to the other,” said Westmincom information officer Major Eugenio Batara, Jr.
Batara disclosed that Bravo is believed to be moving within Munai town in Lanao del Norte province.
Allaga said eight of Bravo’s camps, including two big ones, are now being occupied by government troops.
The camps were taken in the pass weeks as the troops continue to scour the mountains of Lanao.
“Eventually, Bravo will no longer have a place to hide,” Allaga said.
The government is offering a P10 million cash reward to hasten the arrest of Commander Bravo for leading the attack in Lanao that resulted to the death and injury as well as displacement of thousands of civilians.
Brig. Gen. Hilario Atendido, deputy chief of the Army’s First Infantry Division has asked the civilian populace to assist them in the manhunt against Bravo and his men by way of providing vital information.
Atendido also urged the local government units and communities in Lanao to coordinate with the military to put an end to Bravo and his men.
Atendido said the military “need your participation” through information “not to help fight.”
“Let’s not wait for our turn to become their next victims,” he said. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr. -PNA)
