Zamboanga City - - Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday distributed assorted books to some public elementary and secondary books which were donated to the city government by the United States through the Joint Special Operation Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P) under the Books for the Barrios program.
Mayor Lobregat together with Councilors Rudy Lim, Benjamin Guingona and Eddie Saavedra personally handed over the books to the principals and librarians of Don Gregorio Evangelista Memorial Elementary School, Mampang Elementary School and Talon-Talon Elementary School during simple rites held consecutively yesterday morning.
Lobregat said more public schools will receive the books on wide ranging topics like mathematics, algebra, geometry, dictionaries, English writing and grammar, earth and natural science and several other reading materials from National Geographic magazines to short stories.
The books are donations from the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P) and were turned over to the mayor October 24 during ceremonies held at the City Hall conference room. During the same ceremony, the chief executive handed over several boxes of books to the principals of Talisayan National High School, Datu Jainudin Nuno High School in Taluksangay, Don Ramon Enriquez Memorial High School in Labuan, and Capisan Elementary School.
The mayor expressed appreciation to the American government for the donations and declared that the books will be properly distributed to the rightful beneficiaries.
The book distribution forms part of Lobregat’s school program to attain quality education in public schools as he has also engaged in massive construction of school buildings throughout the city. (Vic Larato)
